Cabletalk CMS documentation
Within this page I’ll attempt to explain some of the things you’re able to do with your new WordPress website. Here are some of the things you can do:
Logging in
To login, go to /admin
and login with the credentials that we’ve given you.
Editing Basic Content:
There are various ways in which content is editable in your Admin area. Here are a list of those with explanations:
- About Page
To change any content for the about page, click on the
Pages
link in the sidebar and find the ‘About Cabletalk’ entry.Within there, at the top of the page is the title, which is displayed both on the /about page and on the About section in the Home page.
The large content block within the middle of the page will edit the content found on the About page itself, not the content in the about section on the home page.
The ‘excerpt’ block will control the content you find on the About Section on the Home Page.
- Services Content
The services content located on the Home Page is edited in exactly the same way as the About page, the only difference being that there isn’t a link to the specific page. This page only uses the
Title
&Large Content field
to change the content. - Products/Case Studies Content on Home Page
To edit the content which will be on both the home page and the archives page, go into
Pages
once again, click on either theOur Products
orCase Studies
link and edit the information to your hearts content.
Creating a custom page:
To create a custom page, go to the Pages
link in the sidebar and click add new
. Afterwards, you can edit the title and content blocks, as well as the Permalink
field which is just below the Title
. The permalink is the link that you’ll use to reach the page i.e. cool-page
is equal to http://cable-talk.co.uk/.co.uk/cool-page
. Make sure you keep the Template
field as either Generic
or Default Template
, both work the same. After you publish your page click the visit page
link that pops up.
Editing/Adding a Product:
To edit/add a Product, first of all go to the Products
link in the sidebar.
- Either click on an Existing product or click ‘add new’, the next steps will be virtually the same.
- The title works for any instance of a product: Home Page, Archives Page and Product Page
- The Large content block edits the content on the individual Product Page
- The Excerpt is the small description you see on the Home & Archive Pages
- The Product Icon has its own description
- To change the order of the products, on each product page, they have an order number, the first product will be 1, then it goes up
Editing/Adding a Case Study:
To edit/add a Product, first of all go to the Case Studies
link in the sidebar.
- Either click on an Existing product or click ‘add new’, the next steps will be virtually the same.
- The title works for any instance of a case study: Home Page, Archives Page and Case Study Page
- The Large content block edits the content on the individual Case Study Page
- The Excerpt is the small description you see on the Home & Archive Pages
- The featured image is displayed on the Home and Archive Pages
- The pdf upload can be seen on the individual Case study page
Editing/Adding a vendor:
To edit/add a Product, first of all go to the Vendors
link in the sidebar.
- Either click on an Existing product or click ‘add new’, the next steps will be virtually the same.
- The title is used purely to show which vendor is which
- The Featured image is the image of the vendor itself
- The vendor link is the link the image will take you to
Adding Images:
To add/delete/edit an image, go onto the Media
link in the sidebar or, when you click to set a Featured Image / any other type of media in the admin area, you will also be brought to the Media Uploader.
Editing/Adding a blog post:
To Edit/Add a blog post go to the Posts
link in the sidebar and click on a post or click the Add New
button. These are pretty self explanitory, add a title, content and the a category from a list (you can have multiple ones if you so must, if you don’t select a category, it will default to Generic
).
Add/edit a Category:
To Edit/Add a Blog Category go to the Posts
link in the sidebar, then, whilst still looking in the sidebar, locate the ‘categories’ link underneath it. Within there, you can either edit or add a category. The Slug
is what will be in the URL i.e. cool-category
would be equal to http://cable-talk.co.uk/.co.uk/cool-category
